
Ten Percent Happier Receives 2 Awards at the IIDA NE Design Awards

We are excited to announce that our Ten Percent Happier project has won 2 IIDA New England Design Awards for Humanity of Design and Small Workspace. Ten Percent Happier is a web-based company focused on teaching self-improvement through guided mindful meditation. The 5,200 sf fit-out integrates the unlikely pairing of an open office plan with a public-facing multipurpose meditation and meeting space.

Corey Gibbons Promoted to Project Manager
September 2022
Corey Gibbons joined MERGE as a Project Designer in February 2020. He is an Architect with past experience in ground-up, interior fitout, and renovation projects across commercial, mixed use, and institutional programs in the Boston area. Since joining MERGE, he has provided a critical layer of oversight and management to the firm’s largest interior architecture office projects. He has also led a number of smaller retail and commercial projects. Corey holds a Master of Architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Eli Kruse Logan Promoted to Project Manager
August 2022
Eli Kruse Logan joined MERGE as a Designer in 2018 and has been a Project Designer in the office since 2020. He has served in design roles on projects including commercial office, multifamily housing, historic renovation, and mixed-use development. Eli anchored competition teams investigating traditional Boston housing types, notably in the first prize-winning Back Stack entry to MassCEC’s Triple Decker Design Challenge. Over the past four years, he has been integral to the office’s civic work, presently managing several renovation projects for the City of Boston. Eli leads MERGE’s in-house digital fabrication shop.

Grub Street Narrative Arts Center Previewed in BSA ‘Openings’ Series

Elizabeth Whittaker will present MERGE’s design for the Grub Street Narrative Arts Center in the Boston Society of Architecture’s ‘Openings’ series. Beth will be joined by Matthew Oudens (Oudens Ello Architecture) and Jeffry Burchard (Machado Silvetti) in a digital presentation and discussion regarding projects under construction in the Boston area. Brush Park Neighborhood Starts Construction
November 2016
Mayor Mike Duggan of Detroit, Michigan, Dan Gilbert, Founder and Chairman of Quicken Loans and Rock Ventures, and the project team are celebrating the start of construction of "City Modern" on November 29, 2016. The Brush Park Neighborhood starts construction this month on over 400 new units in this mixed-use, mixed-income development, and MERGE is proud to be part of the team as the designer of the Duplexes and Carriage Homes Typologies.

MERGE is on the road this fall, as Elizabeth Whittaker visits Arizona, Florida and Oregon to discuss recent projects and exciting developments. In Phoenix, AZ, Elizabeth is speaking at the AIA AZ 2016 State Conference (10/7) where the theme is 'Transforming Boundaries'. In Tampa, FL, the University of South Florida's School of Architecture and Community Design is hosting a lecture on 11/8. And in Portland, OR, Elizabeth will be in town for the AIA Portland Architecture Awards on 11/17. We hope that you can come connect at one of these events.

Sonoscape takes Honorable Mention
September 2016
SONOSCAPE, a temporary installation concept by MERGE for the Quad Competition, was awarded an Honorable Mention in the final round of competition. The installation was designed as a destination and a presence within the ABX exhibit hall - a gathering area, vantage point, display armature, and prototype for future interventions from a kit of parts.

Merge Detroit Office Opens

This summer MERGE's Elizabeth Whittaker joined Mic Patterson of Design Tectonics and Douglas Stockman of El Dorado to jury the Architect Magazine's 2016 R+D Awards. From a multitude of entries, the jury awarded winners, citations and honorable mentions across a range of architectural projects, installations, material innovations and conceptual designs.

Merge Wins at Northern Avenue Bridge Competition
May 2016
MERGE architects' proposal was selected as a winning entry from more than 130 submissions in an ideas competition re-imagining the Northern Avenue Bridge at Fort Point Channel in Boston, Massachusetts. The competition was sponsored by the Boston Society of Architects (BSA/AIA) and the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA), with Mayor Martin J. Walsh on hand to kick off the discussion.
