- bio:
Eli joined MERGE Architects in 2018. He is a registered architect with a background in the related fields of archaeology, conservation, preservation, and planning. At MERGE he has applied this experience to projects including residential renovations, multi-family housing, commercial office, and mixed use developments.
Eli received a Master of Architecture from Kansas State University, earning the AIA Henry Adams Award and Kremer Thesis Prize upon graduation. He later attended Harvard University's Graduate School of Design, receiving a Master of Architecture II as well as the Kevin V. Kieran Prize and Julia Amory Appleton Travelling Fellowship. Research efforts as a part of the latter applied representation methods developed in imaging the irregular geometries of straw bale constructions during his thesis to similarly unruly stone ruins across Europe.
He has maintained connections to pedagogy by serving as design instructor at both Kansas State and Harvard University and critic at several other institutions across the U.S. Eli has authored articles in the MASKS and OBL/QUE journals and served on the editorial team of Harvard Design Magazine, Open Letters, and the Oz Journal.
His previous experience in architectural practice ranges in location from the north (Chicago), to the south (Dallas), to the heart (Kansas City) of the American Great Plains. His efforts therein included the design of a housing proposal featured in the inaugural Chicago Biennial, historic preservation planning for the flood-prone Farnsworth House, as well as numerous cultural and commercial projects.
